Emily, followed closely by Rick, hoisted their bodies over the rock wall that surrounded the property. They easily dropped to the soft ground and were immediately surrounded by well-tended gardens. There were many bushes and large shrubs that would serve as ample cover. They took a moment to survey their unknown surroundings using every one of their senses. It smelled clean and earthy, like a well cared for garden should. It was quiet, but not too quiet. There didn’t seem to be any security cameras or guard dogs on duty.

The path was clear to the house.

The couple eased their way toward the large house in a commando-like formation. There was a light that shone brightly from the living room and another dimmer light that glowed from the hallway, which led up to the second story.

Emily moved closer to get a better vantage point of who and what was inside the house. Her gut feeling was telling her that this was the right place as she eased in as close as possible. She had searched for many pedophiles and child abductors in the past and she seemed to always know intuitively when she was on the right trail indicated by an almost subtle tingle down her spine. That feeling now filled her along with some mixed emotions: anger, resentment, concern, compassion, and absolute pure drive.

Her priority was to find the child safe and alive. Her own morbid thoughts ran through detailed scenarios of long, arduous torture for the child abductor by her hands. She blinked back to her task at hand, it had already been several hours since the child had been taken and anything could have transpired in that amount of time.

Rick was at her side viewing the home for any signs of the abducted child. They waited for about fifteen minutes before they saw signs of life inside.

And then it happened.

A tall man walked through the living room holding the hand of a small boy. Immediately, they recognized the man to be Raymond Barton, 37 years old, sited and arrested for inappropriate behavior with a minor on several occasions, registered sex offender, and his family was extremely wealthy. The latter would help keep this predator out of jail or result in the charges being dropped to a lesser charge until his time ultimately ran out. There would be many victims he would leave behind in the meantime.

Emily already had her camera out and was documenting the situation with the identification of the players. She flipped her camera to video and caught the motion of Raymond sitting down with the boy on the couch. It appeared that he had a game board and they were getting ready to play. If someone had seen this interaction, it would have appeared to be just a normal evening of a father playing with his son. It made Emily’s skin crawl and she could feel Rick’s body tense as he too watched.

It appeared that the boy was fine and unharmed, at least at the moment.
